Ambalangoda is a small coastal town famous for its carved wooden masks and its traditional masked dance dramas. Mask workshops and a museum keep the craft alive, and the beach nearby is quiet and uncrowded.

Visitors can watch masks being carved and painted and see how they are used in dance and ritual. The Madu River and its mangrove islands are a short drive away for a boat trip.
