Bundala is a coastal national park of lagoons, salt pans and scrub, recognised as an important wetland for migratory birds. Painted storks, flamingos and many waders are among the species seen here.

The best months for migrant birds are roughly from October to March, and early morning is the best time to go. Crocodiles, deer and a few elephants also live in the park.
