Colombo is the commercial capital and the busiest city on the island, a mix of colonial buildings, modern towers, markets and seafront. Most visitors pass through it, and a few hours here is enough to see why many stay a night or two.
Galle Face Green is the place for an evening walk beside the sea, and the Gangaramaya Temple and Beira Lake are among the most photographed sights. The old Pettah market is crowded and colourful, and the Fort area has restored colonial streets, cafes and shops.

How much time do I need in Colombo?
