Mount Lavinia is a beach suburb on the coast just south of Colombo, with a sandy bay beneath a headland and a famous colonial hotel on the rise above it. It is the easiest beach to reach from the city.
Locals come in the evening to walk on the sand and eat seafood at tables by the water. The hotel on the headland is a good place for a sunset drink, and Colombo is a short drive up the coast.
