Kalpitiya
North Western Province

Kalpitiya is a long, narrow peninsula on the north-west coast, with a calm lagoon on one side and the open Indian Ocean on the other. It has grown into the island's best-known place for kitesurfing, and it is also a quiet base for boat trips to see dolphins.
Kitesurf schools and simple camps line the lagoon, where the main wind season runs through the middle of the year and a gentler winter season follows. Dolphin trips head out from the coast mainly in the calmer winter months, and the nearby reef and small islands suit snorkelling. Wilpattu National Park is a long day trip or a short stay away.
